What's New in v3.10

a) Final support for Windows XP operating system – Starting with the next release, MPLAB X IDE will no longer be supported on Windows XP. This means MPLAB X IDE will no longer be tested on Windows XP and JRE7 will no longer be included in the install.

b) JRE8 added to installer for manual selection – JRE8 is distributed with the IDE and installed as a sibling to JRE7. There is an entry in the mplab_ide.conf file to allow you to select JRE8 by uncommenting a line that selects it. Then you comment out the line that selects JRE7.

c) Last page Boot programming on PIC32MZ devices – The last page of boot memory may now be programmed.

d) Quick Search on Device Selection combo box – From the device selection box, you can enter and search on any expression, displaying a list of devices that have a match to the expression. Previously you could enter only values that occur in a sequence for a specific device name, but now you can enter a string, such as ‘1853’, and it will display all devices with ‘1853’ in the name.

e) Filter Compiler errors and warnings within the Action items window - Under the Action Items window, you can filter your view or create another view of selected content. Now in addition to action items, compiler errors and warnings can be displayed.

f) New File menu or context items based on compiler, rather than generic, templates – For those that don’t already have specific New File templates based on Microchip compilers, those templates have been added for selection when creating a new project file.

g) User Makefile Project Updates – The User Makefile Project wizard has been updated to allow for relative paths.

h) Compiler includes and macros for User makefile projects – Includes and macros can be added to a user makefile project in order to reduce or eliminate syntax errors and red bangs that are related to not knowing these details.

i) Prompt new product releases within MPLAB X IDE – As the IDE prompts when a new plugin update is available using a pop-up balloon, new products that are pushed to the web, like an MPALB XC compiler or an MPLAB X IDE release, now will appear in a pop-up balloon.

j) Enhanced loading speed of large PIC32 projects – Loading code has been refactored to improve the loading 50% or more.

k) Busy indicator for tool processing – A new busy message has been added. When processing trace data, the tabbed window should no longer appear but a message in the bottom status bar should appear letting you know what is happening in the system.

l) Message Center for chronological list of events – The Message Center is a window that collects all the output window messages and then presents them chronologically into one view.

m) Enhanced Midrange 'Hardware Stack' window visibility – A 16-level hardware stack (via the Hardware Stack window) is now visible for Enhanced Midrange (PIC16F1) devices.
Note: When the 16-level hardware stack window is open, program execution can be very slow when single-stepping at low Fosc speeds. Also, updating of this window on Pause will be slow.
