What's New in v6.20

Arm® Cortex®-M Features Support – See the “MPLAB X IDE User’s Guide” (DS-50002027) for new feature details

Smart programming – Program only areas of memory that differ between the IDE and target device (except for SAM L10/11, SAM RH7x and PIC32CZ/CK devices.) To enable, select in

Project Properties > ToolName > Program Options, where ToolName can be: PICkit 4, PICkit 5, ICD 4, ICD 5, ICE 4.

printf – Stream printf data to the MPLAB X Output window through a connected debug tool. The semihosting mechanism is used.

Runtime watch – Watch variable values change and read/write data to a Live View window. Uses Window > Debugging > Live Viewers > Runtime Watch window.

MTB trace – (Device-Dependent) Support for trace using Micro Trace Buffer with output to a Live View window. Uses Window > Debugging > Live Viewers > MTB window.

Diagnostics – Logging for Arm Cortex devices.

AVR XC8 Checksum – A Checksum option is now available for AVR devices in Project Properties > XC8 Linker > Additional options. Click on Checksum to see the Option
Description. The actual Checksum will be shown in the Output window during project build. Unlike the PIC XC8 Checksum calculation, the MPLAB X IDE explicitly calls Hexmate with the -ck option to generate the checksum.

Connectivity stability improvements – Improvements to the hardware-tool-to-PC connection.

Performance enhancements - Support for fast batch operations.

Error Message improvements – Messages have been improved to give more information on possible failure causes.

New Project Wizard update – Create and group multiple projects with a single run-through in the wizard. For Dual Core device or Trust Zone projects on 32-bit devices, development flow is more efficient.

Group of Projects – A simpler method of grouping projects for development.

DeveloperTools Toolbar – Go to View > Toolbars to enable and use buttons “Build Project” and “Clean and Build Project.”

MPLAB XC-DSC C Compiler Support – Support for this compiler now available in Compiler Advisor, CI/CD Wizard, and Code Coverage in the MPLAB Analysis Tool Suite.
